IMAGINE AN OREGON WITH NO FISHING

Criminalize Recreational Activity and Food Production: Oregon already has strong laws prohibiting animal abuse. IP 3 significantly expands those laws by criminalizing the following activities that involve the killing of animals:

• Hunting
• Fishing
• Food Production
• Pest Control

IP 3 would also ban breeding of any kind, including: 

• Domestic animal breeding
• Horse breeding
• Livestock breeding

Catastrophic for our Economy from the Coast to the Desert: IP 3 wouldn’t just put fisherman, farmers and ranchers out of business, it would cause local food processors to close, impact farm suppliers, restaurants, transportation companies, distributors, farm workers, retailers, all the way to the grocery store shelves. 

• Some of Oregon’s most significant industries would be crippled, costing untold jobs throughout the state.
• The reduction in supply will drive up consumer costs. Beloved Oregon dairy, chicken, beef and other brands would be put out of the market all together. 
• Our outdoor recreation economy including retailers, guides and outfitters would take a severe hit with the prohibition on killing deer, elk, fish and other species.

Detrimental to the Environment: 

• Complete reliance on out-of-state meat, dairy and poultry products will result in a net increase in carbon emissions for feeding Oregonians.
• Local governments, homeowners, schools, parks, golf courses and other community resources would be left with little or no way to address invasive species from insects to rodents to predators, potentially causing ecological harm and damage to property, pets, crops and other valuable assets. 

Immense Risk to Food Supply: Banning all killing or slaughter of animals within Oregon would decimate the local food supply. Any operations, whether a small family farm, a few backyard chickens, larger dairies that create our most famous brands or taking wild birds, fish or game for meat would make Oregon completely reliant on out-of-state production of meat, eggs and dairy products.
